Episode 6 | Shaping Brunei’s Film Future: Risk-Taking, Creativity, and Independent Storytelling

In episode 6 of Journeying Futures with UBD Alumni, Syafi Halim, founder of New Wave Films Company, shares his journey from starting on YouTube to becoming an award-winning filmmaker in Brunei’s growing creative industry. His work includes award-winning short films, Brunei’s first National Geographic-funded project, and Kampung Buah, the country’s first 2D animated series, all of which highlight his focus on identity, culture, and innovation. In this episode, he also encourages aspiring creatives to not be afraid of making mistakes, to create their own stories instead of following trends, and to take risks as part of building both their personal journey and the future of the local film industry.
