Henry Ford's Relationship With His Only Son Was Much CRUELER Than You Thought
The official story is short. Edsel Ford, president of the Ford Motor Company for twenty-four years, died at home on Lake St. Clair at forty-nine, of stomach cancer. The newspapers called him the quiet son of a great man. But the record names a second illness beside the cancer, and it came from his father's own farms. Edsel bought Lincoln, shaped the Model A, gave America the Continental and paid for the Rivera murals in Detroit. His father fired the men who agreed with him, cancelled the deals he made in Washington and, by one insider's account, tore down a plant the moment his son finished building it. When Edsel asked for modern brakes, the answer in front of the board was four words. Six days after the funeral, Henry Ford took the title back. It took a widow's threat to sell her shares to end it. And it all comes back to a glass of milk.
