FACES OF THE VALLEY SEASON 1 EPISODE 2: RHOUS MORGAN

Meet Rhous—a Business major and USC’s renowned campus barber. But his journey with the craft of barbering began long before he arrived at the University of the Southern Caribbean. At just 16 years old, while attending community college, Rhous picked up the clippers and began developing a skill that would eventually become an important part of his life. When he arrived at USC and discovered that there was already a barbershop on campus, it felt like the perfect opportunity to continue pursuing his passion. What started as a skill quickly became a way for him to connect with other students and become a familiar face within the USC community. Born in Barbados and hailing from St. Vincent, Rhous has embraced life in Trinidad. He appreciates the faster pace of the country, explaining that it keeps him on his toes and constantly pushes him to adapt. He also views dorm life as a safe haven for students—a space where they can step away from campus, experience Trinidad, and explore beyond the university while still having a supportive environment to return to. For Rhous, barbering is more than simply giving someone a haircut. He sees it as one of the most practical skills a person can have: “You can cut your hair, your kids’ hair, family members…” In his eyes, the possibilities extend far beyond the chair. Barbering, however, is not his final destination. Rhous dreams of owning multiple barbershops and using his experience to train and mentor young men who share the same passion for the craft. His goal is not only to build a successful business but also to create opportunities for others to develop their own skills. His advice to freshmen is simple but valuable: find your community and pay attention to your sequence sheet.Building the right support system can make the university experience much easier, while staying on top of your academic requirements can keep you on the right path toward graduation
