You’ve begun recognising some of the gifts, abilities, experiences and patterns God has placed in your life.
But then another thought follows:
“Yes... but I’m not ready.”
Maybe you don’t feel qualified enough. Confident enough. Healed enough. Or you simply have no idea how God could use what you’re beginning to recognise.
But what does “I’m not ready” actually mean?
In Episode 14 of Cave to Calling, we slow those words down and look at what may really be underneath them.
Because needing preparation is different from needing healing.
Needing prayer, guidance or support is different from lacking confidence.
And recognising what God has placed in your hands without yet understanding how He intends to use it doesn’t necessarily mean you’re not ready.
It may mean discernment is still unfolding.
We’ll also look at Gideon in Judges 6 and his response when God called him:
“How can I...?”
Gideon saw his limitations, his circumstances and all the reasons he believed he was inadequate.
God brought his attention somewhere else:
“I will be with you.” — Judges 6:16
🌿 In this episode, we explore:
• What you may actually mean when you say, “I’m not ready”
• The pressure we can place on ourselves to feel completely prepared
• Five different things that can sit beneath our hesitation: preparation, healing, support, discernment, and confidence or certainty
• Why genuine preparation isn’t the same as self-disqualification
• Why needing prayer, encouragement or wise support doesn’t mean you’re incapable
• How hurt, betrayal or previous experiences can affect our willingness to step forward again
• Why recognising your gifts doesn’t mean you have to immediately know how God will use them
• The difference between faithfully stewarding your abilities and trying to manufacture a Kingdom assignment from them
• Why your everyday work can be worship
• What Gideon’s story teaches us about confidence, inadequacy and the presence of God
One of the questions I invite you to consider is:
When I say, “I’m not ready,” what do I actually mean?
Is it preparation?
Healing?
Support?
Discernment?
Or are you waiting to feel completely confident or certain before you believe you can move forward?
Sometimes the problem isn’t that we’re unprepared.
It’s the standard we’ve created for what “ready” is supposed to look like.
And remember:
Some preparation happens before we begin. Other preparation happens because we begin.
