The Overture opens Act One of The Nutcracker and sets the scene for the magical story to come. With its bright fanfare, elegant lyricism and characteristic Tchaikovskian energy, it introduces many of the themes that reappear throughout the ballet. Arranged for glockenspiel, the orchestral colours are transformed into a sparkling, transparent sound, highlighting the instrument’s clarity and brilliance. This arrangement is part of Dances from the Nutcracker, a collection of glockenspiel arrangements based on Tchaikovsky’s original orchestral score and his own piano reduction, published by Edition Svitzer.
