Sic Transit Gloria Wild Mary

In February 2022, during the Trains Magazine Photo charter, the WMSR and Precision Locomotive Leasing (PNLX) teamed up to bring two former Western Maryland Railway second generation Diesels back to their home rails for operation. SD40 7471 (8/1966) and SD35 7436 (12/64) were brought out to the public in a surprise that many thought they would never see again, as well as allowing a younger generation to experience what railroading was like before the dismemberment of the Western Maryland Railway in 1975. The locomotives', after this charter were to have been leased out, however, during the first two weekends in June the WMSR again teamed up with PNLX, and the 7471 was used as a helper on the railroad's Frostburg Flyer excursion service. This service for the venerable SD was short-lived as several compiling issues forced the locomotive to be removed from this service and placed back in storage. The locomotives have since been leased and are off the property.
