Sit back and enjoy one of Switzerland’s most beautiful railway journeys as we travel from Lucerne to Interlaken aboard the Luzern–Interlaken Express. This relaxing journey takes us through the spectacular heart of Switzerland, passing shimmering lakes, traditional villages, green valleys and dramatic Alpine landscapes on our way into the Bernese Oberland. Beginning at Lucerne railway station, we leave the city behind and travel south through the beautiful scenery of Central Switzerland. Along the way we travel alongside the waters of Lake Sarnen and through the peaceful Swiss countryside. One of the highlights comes at Lungern, where the railway climbs high above the beautiful turquoise Lake Lungern, surrounded by mountains and traditional Swiss homes. From here, the journey becomes even more dramatic as our train climbs towards the Brünig Pass. The railway is so steep in places that the train uses a rack-and-pinion system to help it tackle the mountain gradients. After reaching Brünig-Hasliberg, more than 1,000 metres above sea level, we descend towards Meiringen before continuing alongside the extraordinary turquoise waters of Lake Brienz.
