The nearby Défago Gallery is separated from Champéry, the highest village in the French-speaking Val d'Illiez and one of the oldest tourist resorts in Switzerland, by the Vièze river. It runs at an altitude of around 150 meters above the river, more or less horizontally through the bare rock face of Les Rives. The gallery offers a direct view across and down to Champéry. The path is wide, suitable for average hikers, and secured with a fence on the side facing the precipice. However, it is not suitable for people who are afraid of heights. The Défago Gallery was inaugurated in the summer of 1864 and was intended as an attraction in connection with the emerging tourism industry.
