He Saved His Career With One Phone Call | The One They Call | ROOTS EP.03

He was injured, far from home, and ready to give up on football. He called his parents first. Then he called Coach. The One They Call is the story of Coach Ernest Siaw Nartey Malay, a football coach and personal trainer in Accra who left a career in IT to give his life to the game. From community pitches to Top Ten Academy and Accra Lions, he has become more than a coach to the young players he trains. He's a father figure, a brother, and the one they turn to when football gets heavy, on and off the pitch. In a game where many were raised on harsh words, he chose a different way: speak life, correct with care, and remember that football goes way beyond 90 minutes. Father. Brother. Coach. ROOTS is an After90 documentary series telling the stories behind African sport: where people come from, and what shaped them. 📍 Accra, Ghana Credits Featuring: Ernest Siaw Nartey Malay Director: Husseni Shamsudeen Writer: Derrick Otabil Produced by After90 -- Chapters 00:00 Intro 00:31 From IT to the Pitch 01:25 Giving Back 03:05 All In on Football 03:46 Father, Brother, Coach 05:46 The Phone Call 09:08 Words Carry Weight 10:30 Beyond 90 Minutes 12:13 Joy in the Work 14:31 The Hardest Words 15:50 Learning From Every Player 17:34 Reflection 18:50 The Human Touch 20:03 To the 14-Year-Old 20:52 How the Game Should Remember Him 23:14 Twenty Years From Now -- Follow After90 I📸 Instagram:   / after90sports   🎥 TikTok:   / after90sports   🐦 X (Twitter): https://x.com/after90sports 🌐 Website: https://afterninetysports.com #roots #After90 #TheOneTheyCall #ghanafootball #footballcoach
