Hi all, here's a little line by Simon Rigter, taken from his studies on the tritone. Check out his two volumes, Moving Motives — vol. 1, Six Scales, and vol. 2, Scales Working Together: both are a great source of inspiration. Practicing the tritone on the fretboard means visualizing two keys: in this case, B and F. I applied the fretboard voice-leading concept to see how to connect and shift smoothly between the two source scales, B and F natural major. The line itself is a great example of voice leading, and here I use right and left shifts through all five areas over C#m7 F#7 | Gm7 C7 | BM7. For my book I'm writing my own lines, but the focus is the same: the movement itself, rather than memorizing countless shapes and patterns on the fretboard. Take a look at the diagrams and the fingerings I use in the video — you'll notice that each position shift (the traditional four-fret span) is just one fret!
