The Well-Tempered Wood Thrush - Paul Winter Consort

The Well-Tempered Wood Thrush Wood Thrush, J.S. Bach, Paul Winter (Living Earth Music, BMI) Wood Thrush / vocal Paul Winter / soprano sax Eugene Frisen / cello Henrique Eisenmann / fortepiano Peter Slavov / bass Rogerio Boccato / drums Cello line by J.S. Bach and Dave Haughey One of my favorite voices of our New England forest is that of the Wood Thush. A few years ago, a Wood Thrush with a beautiful song spent the summer near our cottage, singing to us each morning and evening. I came to realize that he was singing in the key of C major, and then had the further revelation that the four phrases of his song, which he repeated again and again, fit perfectly with the first four chords of the famous prelude of "The Well-Tempered Clavier" of J.S. Bach, which also happens to be in C major. Wanting to salute both of these musical traditions, I had this fantasy that ol'J.S. and the Wood Thrush stumble into a little Brazilian party, and a good time is had by all.
