Why can't you let go of what someone did to you—even after years of inner work? Maybe you've tried to forgive them. You've analyzed what happened, prayed about it, journaled about it, or told yourself you should be over it by now. Yet a memory, a name, or an unexpected reminder can still bring back the anger, resentment, hurt—or even leave you feeling small and not good enough all over again.
If you're a high-achieving woman on a spiritual path of awakening, that can create another painful layer: I know I'm supposed to forgive. Why can't I?
In this episode of The Orchard Sanctuary, I invite you to consider a very different possibility:
You don't HAVE to force yourself to forgive.
Sometimes the part of you that cannot let go isn't resisting your spiritual growth. It may still believe that holding onto what happened is protecting you.
We’ll explore why forgiveness is not the same as reconciliation, trust, or abandoning healthy boundaries—and why trying to force forgiveness can cause us to reject the very part of ourselves that most needs our compassion.
I also share a personal experience of recognizing how an old relationship can continue to live inside us long after the other person is gone—and how recurring memories can reveal where something within us is still asking for loving attention.
Forgiveness may not be the doorway to freedom.
Sometimes forgiveness is the fruit that naturally appears as you become free.
