Raag Puriya Kalyan | Akshay Vardhave | Guruvandana 2026

Shri Akshay Vardhave is a disciple of Pt. Arun Kashalkar of Agra Gharana. He began his musical training at a tender age of 13 under the tutelage of Pt. Suhas Mahajan in Karjat, India. He has also undergone the training of Onkar Sadhana from Shri Shrikant Ranade in Mumbai. He has been actively being trained in the nuances and subtleties of the Agra tradition from Pt. Arun Kashalkar over the past decade. He is currently receiving training from Shri. Mukul Kulkarni in Pune. This video is from his performance in the 'Gurupournima 2026' held in Mumbai wherein he rendered Raag Puriya Kalyan, comprising of three compositions; ‘Howan laagi Sanjh' a traditional composition set to vilambit tilwada, ‘Karat ho moso barajori’, a composition by Pt. Arun Kashalkar (aka 'Rasdas') set to drut teentaal followed by a self composed Tarana set to drut teentaal. He was accompanied by Nishad Chinchole & Rutuja Karve Kunte on tabla and harmonium respectively and Sumedh Kulkarni on the Tanpura and vocal support.
