At last, I’m getting round to the manga I’ve always wanted to analyse, and what better way to start than by discussing the most central element of Berserk’s world-building: causality.
What is causality? How does it influence the plot and narrative of Berserk? And what philosophical questions does it raise?
Well, we’re going to try to answer all that, which will allow us to discuss a whole host of concepts along the way, such as determinism, free will and even God, and to tackle a whole range of topics directly linked to the manga, such as certain aspects of the lore, for example the different strata of reality, the role and nature of the God Hand, Idea (the idea of evil, the desired god, the true master of causality), the famous ‘secret’ chapter, the 83, which was removed by Miura from the volumes, the Moon Child, the child of Guts and Casca who shares Griffith’s body, but also, and above all, how Guts might defeat Griffith. But also the way Miura went about writing Berserk. And of course, based on all that, to work out what it’s telling us.
In short, it’s going to be a very packed, very dense video, and I hope I’ll be clear enough and that you’ll be able to follow along!
