Mikhail Starokadomsky - Passacaglia "Circle" [Protsyuk]

Mikhail Leonidovich Starokadomsky (1901 – 1954) was a Soviet composer, organist, and teacher. Laureate of the third degree Stalin Prize (1952). Starokadomsky was born in Brest-Litovsk (now Brest, Belarus) to the family of L.M. Starokadomsky, a physician and polar explorer. He graduated from the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, studying organ with A. F. Goedicke in 1926 and composition with Nikolai Myaskovsky two years later. For some time, Starokadomsky performed solo organ concerts, and from 1930 he taught orchestration at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory (since 1947, he has been a professor). From 1923 to 1932, Starokadomsky was a member of the Association of Contemporary Music. In the 1930s, his music (organ compositions and orchestral works) was successfully performed abroad (in Czechoslovakia, France, and the United States). In the USSR, the composer gained wide recognition in the 1930s–1950s, primarily as the author of children's songs (including "The Amateur Fisherman" and "The Merry Travelers" ("We're Going, Going, Going...")). Starokadomsky also worked in radio, wrote film scores, and was known as a music critic and writer. Among his books are textbooks on orchestration and the history of musical styles, which develop the ideas of N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov. M. L. Starokadomsky died on April 24, 1954. He was buried in Moscow at the Vvedensky cemetery (25th place).
