An original fictional story. People, creatures and places are invented; visuals and voices are AI-generated. The mountains of western Norway, autumn 1928. Road engineer Magnus has twenty-one days to finish the first hairpin bend of a new mountain pass before the inspector arrives. But every dawn, a new dry-stone wall stands on the slope above the road, built overnight where no crew has worked. His sister Ingrid photographs the walls by night, and her glass plates show only a tall grey blur. One moonlit night they finally meet the builder: a silent giant of mossy stone, with young birches growing from its shoulders, who walks only between dusk and dawn. The walls are not random. They mark exactly where the mountain is weak. Magnus redraws the road along the giant's walls. The contractor Brakstad wants the short line and the cheaper bill, and when his men dig under the one ledge Magnus has forbidden, the mountain answers. Only a gentle giant, a lantern-lit night and a race against the sunrise can bring everyone home. Inspired by the mountain trolls of Norwegian folk tales, who live inside the mountains and walk only by night. Director's note: In the old tales, trolls are the danger hiding in the mountains. We wanted to turn that around and ask what it would mean if the mountain's oldest builder was the one quietly keeping travellers safe. We kept one rule from the folklore, that a troll must be gone before the sun touches the peaks, and built the whole rescue around that single deadline.
