Dragon Bone Hill, near Peking. Autumn, 1899 — the third year without rain. For twenty years Han has dug "dragon bones" out of the hillside and sold them to the apothecary to be ground into medicine. One night, deep inside the hill, the stone is warm — and a blind, three-thousand-year-old dragon is still breathing. The old one has come home to rest beside its kin. Han realises the kin are the very bones he dug up and sold. He and his daughter Lian secretly care for it and set out to bring every bone back — but the Magistrate wants a living omen for the Imperial Court, and one stolen scale is enough to lead him there. For centuries, Chinese apothecaries sold dragon bones as medicine. In 1899, a scholar in Peking noticed carvings on them — the oldest Chinese writing ever found. A short film by Thousand Words FilmS.
