Guila Clara Kessous: Immersive educational workshop on remembrance

In remembrance of the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz and the founding of UNESCO, the performance directed by Kessous featured six notable community leaders charged with transmitting the testimony of the choices that make us human. “Never again" becomes more than a slogan: it's a prayer, a promise, a vow. –– Elie Wiesel Prior to the ceremony, Kessous led an educational workshop leveraging theatrical methods for community engagement around genocide and remembrance. This unique workshop focused on transmitting memories and recollective agency to the younger generation. This educational component involved community leaders and students interested in serving as Remembrance Ambassadors for the Holocaust. After the workshop, Remembrance Ambassadors participated in the production to symbolize their commitment to remembrance and community engagement. The combination of the immersive educational workshop and the once-in-a-lifetime theatrical experience shared Elie Wiesel’s message of “never again” to those who bear the responsibility of remembrance.
