Making a Baskin-Robbins Spoon | Hand-Forged Sterling Silver

A Baskin-Robbins spoon is probably something most of us never really think about. It is small and familiar, used for only a few minutes before being easily forgotten. That is why I wanted to make one. Starting with a piece of 925 sterling silver, I forged, shaped, filed, and finished the spoon by hand using traditional forging techniques. The form of a spoon comes from its function. By remaking this familiar form in silver, I wanted to take a closer look at the things we have passed by so quickly through the processes of industrialization and mechanization. By focusing on each step of hammering, shaping, and finishing by hand, I wanted to see an ordinary object that we encounter every day from a slightly different perspective. This is the first object of Slow Wayfinder. We make things every day, and in doing so, we live. What we make, and how we make it, resembles the way we live. Why do we make? And how do we choose to live? These are the first questions of Slow Wayfinder. I hope you enjoy the video. Thank you.
