Making a Fork | Hand-Forged Sterling Silver | ASMR

I don’t particularly like forks. If I had to choose between a fork and chopsticks, I would choose chopsticks. I don’t particularly enjoy making forks, either. It is difficult to get the spacing and proportions of the tines right, and to keep both sides symmetrical. Compared to a spoon, I also find fewer elements of form that interest me. And yet, I make a fork from time to time. Partly because a fork should exist alongside the spoons I make, and partly because I want to properly make something I don’t particularly like. This time, I wanted to bring both what I like and what I don’t like into a single fork. The front is shaped with soft curves and volume. The sides reveal sharper lines and defined planes, while the back is almost completely flat. What makes a form whole? Softness and sharpness. Volume and flatness. What I like and what I don’t. Different things can exist together within a single form. We cannot always choose only what we like. There are things we have to do even when we don’t want to, and I think this repeats itself throughout our lives. Two different qualities can exist in opposition, yet still become one whole. Thank you. 저는 포크를 좋아하지 않습니다. 포크와 젓가락 중 하나를 고르라면 젓가락을 선택합니다. 포크를 만드는 일도 좋아하지 않습니다. 포크 살의 간격과 좌우대칭을 맞추는 일이 어렵고, 개인적으로 스푼에 비해 형태적으로 재미있는 요소도 적다고 생각합니다. 그럼에도 가끔 포크를 만듭니다. 스푼과 짝을 이루어야 한다는 작은 의무감도 있고, 싫어하는 것을 제대로 만들어보고 싶다는 마음도 있습니다. 이번에는 그 포크 안에 내가 좋아하는 것과 좋아하지 않는 것을 함께 담아보았습니다. 앞면은 부드러운 곡선과 볼륨으로, 옆면에는 각과 날카로운 선을, 뒷면은 평평한 면으로 만들었습니다. 무엇이 하나의 형태를 만드는가. 부드러움과 날카로움, 볼륨과 평면. 좋아하는 것과 좋아하지 않는 것. 서로 다른 것들이 하나의 형태 안에서 함께 존재합니다. 좋아하는 것만 선택할 수 없고, 싫은 것도 해야 하는 일이 삶에서도 계속 반복되는 것 같습니다. 서로 다른 두 성질이 대립하면서도 하나의 전체를 이루는 것. 이번 ‘양의(兩儀) 포크’는 그런 생각에서 시작되었습니다. 이것은 Slow Wayfinder의 세 번째 영상입니다. 영상을 즐겁게 봐주셨으면 합니다. 감사합니다.
