In October 1941, five Soviet armies were destroyed around Vyazma, and the general who commanded them, Ivan Konev, faced a military tribunal. Stalin had already had his predecessor shot. Only Georgy Zhukov's intervention saved him. Three years later, the same man was a Marshal of the Soviet Union, and by 1945 he was racing Zhukov himself to Berlin. This documentary follows Konev's three greatest tactical moves on a live battle map: the encirclement at Korsun-Cherkassy, the gamble of pushing a whole tank army through the narrow Koltiv corridor during the Lvov-Sandomierz offensive, and the drive across the Neisse that turned his tanks north toward Berlin.
