Tonight, in another woman's house, they're serving the rice cakes. Your husband has just taken a second wife.
Step into the life of Tokihime, first wife of Fujiwara no Kaneie in 10th-century Heian Japan. You married him first and gave him his eldest son. The new wife is nineteen, and half the capital is copying out her poems. Then his cart stops coming to either of you, and a letter arrives from the second wife herself, who is waiting for him too.
She has his nights. You have his name. Is that enough?
Based on real people and events, from the Kagerō Diary and the Ōkagami. Some scenes and dialogue are dramatised.
