I’m 60 and Can’t Afford to Retire. Here’s What I’m Doing About It.

What do you do when you're 60, running out of savings, and realize you can't afford to retire? That's the question I'm trying to answer. After losing my full-time job and then recently losing the last long-term gig I'd had for more than a decade, I found myself staring at retirement and realizing my savings and Social Security may not be enough. And after talking with friends my age, I've realized I'm far from the only one wondering: What do I do now? Divorce, job loss later in life, years of self-employment, age discrimination, and now AI changing the way we work have left a lot of people in their 50s and 60s looking at retirement very differently than we expected. So I'm trying something. I've spent decades creating websites, marketing businesses, writing, and building audiences for other people. Now I'm giving myself 90 days to see whether I can use those same skills to build an income around the work I actually want to do: writing books, telling stories, making videos, and having conversations about the things I've learned along the way. I'm not a retirement expert or a financial advisor. I'm figuring this out in real time.
