Makishi Band's history is not well documented. Music historian Leonard Koloko writes very little about the band in his book, mentioning only that the band was named after the traditional dance culture of the Lunda and Luvale peoples and that they were known for wearing makeup and costumes on stage. The band had three albums in the late 1980's with the last in 1989. As was common, album covers provide little detail about who plays on the albums. Davies Chimpampe, Danny Mbelenje and Savid Sitambuli are given songwriter credits on Ba Samora's album cover. Davies Chimpampe was a member of Mashabe Band.
Fellow youtuber, Chimphepo Media Solutions, writes that for Ba Samora, the players included David Sitambuli on rhythm guitar, Danny Mbelenje on lead guitar, Luka Kabwe on bass, Reuben Mwale on drums and backing vocals with Frelvis Theda Kasonkomona, Priscila and Davies Chimpampe also providing backing vocals. Many of the band members had a long history in music with several of the band members having played with other bands prior to Makishi Band.
