What does Antarctica actually look like if you strip away kilometers of ice? Using decades of scientific radar surveys, ice-penetrating scans, and high-resolution bedrock elevation data, we mapped the hidden topography of the white continent. Beneath the ice sheet lies a dramatically different world: massive buried mountain ranges taller than the Alps, deep tectonic rift valleys plunging thousands of meters below sea level, and vast ancient river networks from before Antarctica froze over. In this video, we explore the true continent beneath the ice, how scientists mapped it, and what it reveals about Earth's geological past and future.
