In this video, we take a complete look at the common-emitter configuration of the transistor for both PNP and NPN types — from current directions and bias voltages to the input and output characteristics and the cutoff, saturation, and active regions — and finish with a numerical example calculating the collector resistor that places the transistor at the edge of saturation. We also introduce the common-collector configuration. 🔹 What you’ll learn in this video: ✅ The common-emitter structure for PNP and NPN transistors and the correct directions of IB, IC, and IE ✅ The conditions for forward-biasing the base-emitter junction and the correct battery polarities for each transistor type ✅ The NPN input characteristic: the exponential IB-vs-VBE relation and how the Early Effect changes the curve’s slope ✅ The output characteristic: IC vs VCE, and defining the cutoff region (VBE below the turn-on voltage) ✅ The saturation region: VCE between zero and VCE,sat, with IC rising exponentially ✅ The active region: VBE above the turn-on voltage and VCE above VCE,sat, with IC = βIB ✅ How increasing IB shifts the family of output curves in the active region ✅ A numerical example: finding RC to place the transistor at the edge of saturation (answer: 500 Ω) ✅ Introducing the common-collector configuration for PNP and NPN and the relation IE = IB + IC This video is a complete and practical learning resource for electrical and electronics engineering students, and anyone interested in analog electronics, for understanding the common-emitter configuration. 📌 If you found this video helpful, please like it, share your questions and experiences in the comments, and subscribe to the channel for more tutorials.
