Why the Book of Enoch Says Certain Humans Are Guarded by Something Older Than Angels (And Names It) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Book of Enoch says certain humans are guarded by something that existed before the sun was made, before a single star was set in place, and before any angel opened his eyes. Not an angel. Not a hidden rank of beings nobody told you about. Something the book places before all of them. You may have heard that the “holy ones” in Enoch are a secret order older than the angels. The book itself says otherwise. In chapter 100, the guardians of the righteous are chosen from among the holy angels, the ones who stayed when the Watchers came down Mount Hermon. The angels guard. But the book names one who was there before any of them were made. And the humans He keeps aren’t the ones most of us picture. Not the spotless, not the impressive. The book calls Him a staff for the righteous to lean on and not fall, and the hope of those who are troubled of heart. The name the book gives Him is one you’ve heard your whole life: the Son of Man, the name Jesus used for Himself more than any other. In this study we read Enoch carefully, what it is, what it isn’t, why Jude quotes it, and why the section with this passage was never found among the Dead Sea Scrolls. Then we follow that name into Daniel 7, John 17, and 1 Peter 1:20, where Scripture says it plainly. The Bible was written for you. Let’s read it that way. 📖 KEY VERSE “Enoch walked with God, and he was not, for God took him.” Genesis 5:24 (ESV) 📜 IN THIS STUDY ▸ Why Enoch breaks the pattern of every other name in Genesis 5 ▸ The book Jude quotes almost word for word, and why the early church argued over it ▸ How a Scottish traveler brought it back from Ethiopia in 1773 ▸ The Watchers: guardians whose job was to stay awake, and the day 200 of them stopped ▸ Why fallen angels asked a man to pray for them, and the answer God sent back ▸ The figure Enoch saw beside the Head of Days, and the name the angel gave him ▸ What the “holy ones” really are, read straight from the text ▸ Who “the righteous” turn out to be, and the door the book leaves open for “the others” ▸ Hidden, preserved, revealed: the same three movements in Enoch and in 1 Peter ▸ The letter written to people whose lives didn’t go according to their goodness ▸ The night Jesus said “I have guarded them,” and the line in that prayer that reaches you 📌 When you heard “certain humans are guarded,” did you count yourself in, or out? Tell me in the comments. 📖 SCRIPTURE IN THIS STUDY Genesis 5:21–24 · Daniel 4:13 · Daniel 7:13–14 · Daniel 12:3 · Mark 14:61–62 · Luke 10:17–20 · Luke 22:31–33 · John 8:56–58 · John 17:5–24 · Hebrews 7:25 · Hebrews 11:5–6 · 1 Peter 1:1, 20 · Jude 6, 14–15, 24 Also read (1 Enoch, not part of the Protestant canon): 1 Enoch 13–15 · 46 · 48 · 50 · 100 · 103–104 🙏 BEFORE YOU GO If this study meant something to you, subscribe so we can keep reading these pages together.
