A lot has changed in ASCII CITY since I posted the first prototype. I've been continuing to experiment with how far I can push the idea of a walkable 3D city made entirely from ASCII characters, running from a single HTML file. This update adds a much larger city, increased draw distance, smoother rendering, pseudo-volumetric objects, enterable buildings, multiple storeys, and the ability to look back out over the actual city from inside those buildings. In this video I wanted to show some of those changes, but also explain a little bit about how they actually work. Try the prototype: https://ko-fi.com/s/e1e0f91951 If you'd like to explore it yourself, the current prototype is available for a small charge. I've kept it inexpensive, and every purchase directly supports continued development of ASCII CITY. You will also get access to future prototypes. Just bear in mind that this is still a very early prototype rather than a finished game. At the moment it's mostly about walking around, exploring the city and seeing what the renderer can do — features, performance and the world itself will continue to change as development progresses. Thanks again for all the comments, ideas and encouragement on the original video. I genuinely wasn't expecting so many people to be interested in this strange little experiment, and I'm having a lot of fun seeing where it goes next.
