Natalie Imbruglia's First Fleet Ancestor | Who Do You Think You Are? Australia | S9 E3

Pop icon Natalie Imbruglia follows a paper trail that rewrites what she thought she knew about her family. What begins with a fiery convict in Maitland takes an unexpected turn across the Pacific. From a tattooed Irish highwayman on the Andromeda and a shocking day in Maitland Jail, to Morpeth’s river port and the strength of Mary Thorpe, Natalie tracks a lineage of resilience. Then a twist: John Bryant becomes John Ryan, a First Fleet name that leads her to Norfolk Island, an emancipation, and a hard-won plot of land. But why did he vanish from the records? And how did survivor Sarah Woolley, sent on the notorious Neptune, change the family’s course? Journey through Sydney Cove’s rationed beginnings, the Hunter and Hawkesbury frontiers, and the intimate choices that shaped generations. Powerful women, difficult men, and one discovery that hits close to home. Watch to see how these threads connect and what Natalie finds at the end of the trail. #NatalieImbruglia #FirstFleet #WDYTYA #AustralianHistory #FamilyHistory #ConvictHistory #NorfolkIsland
