Saturn Coal Mine to Skipper's Art | Who Do You Think You Are? Australia | S5 E7

A sealed box of wartime letters. Three silent years. And an 800‑mile march that almost broke him. Rove McManus follows a trail that keeps changing shape the closer he gets. From his pop Bill Bryden’s cheery POW notes that suddenly stop, to the brutal reality of forced labour in Upper Silesia and the Long March back into Germany, each clue exposes what was hidden at home. Then the story turns north: a magistrate’s harsh sentences for Aboriginal children in Halls Creek, a scandal in Wyndham that ends in an unexpected verdict, and a proud choice to start again among the meatworks’ freezer rooms. Just when Rove thinks he’s the family black sheep, a mischievous set of doodles in an 1841 almanac reveals an ancestor whose art still hangs in a gallery. What connects coal dust, chained courtyards, and inked margins? Watch to see how it all fits together, and why one reveal leaves Rove lost for words. #RoveMcManus #WhoDoYouThinkYouAre #FamilyHistory #WWIIPOW #AustralianHistory #ArtAndAncestry
