Cycling Piemonte: Gavi to Acqui Terme (Day 2) Day 2 of our Piemonte Barolo & Truffles cycling journey takes us from Gavi to Acqui Terme, crossing two distinct and historic landscapes. We begin in Gavi Ligure, a small town of narrow streets and an imposing 16th-century fortress, originally designed by a monk. From here, we follow the scenic route known as The Castles of Alto Monferrato — a chain of medieval hilltop villages, each crowned by its own castle marking the region’s historic borderlands. A long final descent carries us into Acqui Terme, crossing a graceful bridge toward the town’s ancient Roman aqueduct, built more than 2,000 years ago.
