Firewood needs to be cut and put away, equipment needs to be ready, supplies need to be stocked, and you learn very quickly that when the power goes out or the weather turns, preparation matters. Good friendships are worth tending to just like everything else we prepare and care for. Life wasn't meant to be lived completely on our own. There are seasons when we're strong enough to help someone else—and seasons when we're incredibly grateful for the people willing to stand beside us. Here in Alaska, that can become very real. A neighbor with equipment. A friend willing to lend a hand. Someone who checks on you during a storm. People gathering together to get a job done. A hot cup of coffee after a long day's work. Those seemingly ordinary moments become some of life's greatest blessings.
