This was a rollercoaster from start to finish. After we were told to remove the line, we figured we'd have fun on what was possibly our last boat ride for awhile. We brought fishing poles, the last of the shrimp and a half dozen small goldfish, the dogs, tennis balls, which Moose kept dropping over the side of the boat, smoked pig ears, and a little cooler with snacks.
When we saw the park was closed, we had been planning on running a new line, so it was fate that Nelson was still in the boat.
We think he was our lucky charm, looking out for us, because I'd been on my way to bring him inside, when Josh stopped me and said "one more boat ride, for now." so we put him back on the boat. He provided the line, and our meager bait supply was enough to bait the banks at least. The goldfish proved too small for the trotline hooks, so now I have 5 little goldfish in a tank.
We only managed to bait 8 hooks, but I'm beaming with gratitude at the way everything fell into place. Now we can get going with some limb lines, more hooks and regular runs!
