P Q R S T Letter Sounds - The Sound Gate for 4 and 5 Year Olds

A machine with a gate in it. The gate is listening for one letter sound, and a thing only gets through if its name starts with it. WHAT THIS TEACHES The sounds of P, Q, R, S and T - and it teaches them by USING them. Almost every letter-sounds video announces the sound as a fact about the letter, "P says p", next to a picture of something that starts with it. The sound is never needed for anything. Here the sound is a test: a pig, a quilt, a ring, a sun and a tree come along the belt, and your child has to listen to the FRONT of each word and decide whether the gate will open or stay shut. Then it does. NOTHING GETS TURNED AWAY The sun arrives while the gate is listening for p, and it does not get through - so it waits on the shelf until S comes round, and then it does. Same sun, same gate, two different answers, because the LETTER changed. That is the whole idea of the episode, and it is the clearest evidence a four year old can be given that the gate is about the sound rather than about the thing. BEST FOR 4 and 5 year olds - preschool and pre-kindergarten. Every round asks a direct question and then waits, with a real pause on screen, so there is time to answer out loud before the answer arrives.
