Amjed Ullah Khan Spokesman MBT Takes Up UAE Custody and Jail Issue with EAM Dr. S. Jaishankar; Writes Second Letter Seeking Urgent Intervention: Hyderabad, September 13, 2026: Amjed Ullah Khan, Spokesman, Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT), has taken up the matter of an Indian family facing prolonged separation in the United Arab Emirates with Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Hon’ble Minister for External Affairs, Government of India, and has now addressed a second letter seeking urgent intervention. Amjed Ullah Khan stated that he had earlier brought the matter to the notice of the External Affairs Minister through a detailed representation and that, despite the passage of more than 45 days, the family continues to remain separated. The matter concerns Mrs. Ayesha Begum of Hyderabad, whose husband Mohammed Jaweed, an Indian national holding Indian Passport No. Z2666214, is presently lodged in Dubai Jail, after having earlier been detained in Ajman Jail. Their minor son Mohammed Jameel, holder of Indian Passport No. C2738344, continues to remain in the UAE away from his mother. According to Ayesha Begum's representation, her husband has been in UAE jails for almost 15 months and was allegedly implicated in cases after he demanded the custody of his minor son from his sister Mohammedi Begum, who is residing in Dubai. Amjed Ullah Khan said that the matter is particularly serious as there is a judgment of the competent UAE Court concerning the custody of the minor child, which, according to the documents submitted by the family, recognized the father's legal guardianship and directed that the child be handed over to him. In his second representation to Dr. S. Jaishankar, Amjed Ullah Khan has requested the Ministry of External Affairs to urgently direct the Embassy of India in Abu Dhabi and/or the Consulate General of India in Dubai to take up the matter with the concerned UAE authorities and Dubai Police. He has specifically sought: 1) Immediate consular and legal assistance to Mohammed Jaweed. 2) Verification of the cases in which he is presently detained and assistance in securing due legal process. 3) Intervention with the concerned UAE authorities regarding his prolonged detention. 4) Implementation of the relevant UAE Court judgment concerning custody of Mohammed Jameel. 5) Steps for the safe return of the minor child to his mother and lawful family. 6) Assistance for the release and repatriation of Mohammed Jaweed to India, subject to UAE law and judicial procedures. 7) Immediate humanitarian intervention to reunite the separated family. Amjed Ullah Khan said that the mother has informed him that, after his earlier intervention and representation to the External Affairs Minister, her husband has now been able to speak to her approximately once a week, whereas she had not received a call from him for around 15 months. He said that the continued separation of a mother from her minor son and the prolonged detention of her husband require the urgent attention of the Government of India on humanitarian and consular grounds. Amjed Ullah Khan appealed to Dr. S. Jaishankar to personally look into the matter and direct the concerned Indian diplomatic missions in the UAE to take up the case with the appropriate UAE authorities and make every possible effort, within the framework of law, to secure the family's reunion and provide necessary assistance to the Indian nationals concerned.
