What CLIFF BOOTH Is REALLY About (And Why the New Title Gives It Away)

Let me refresh your memory. The new Cliff Booth trailer opens on a story. Somebody calls Cliff the stuntman who beat up Bruce Lee. The thing is, in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood nobody won that fight. It gets stopped halfway, and Cliff loses his job over it. So we went back through the 2019 film, Tarantino's 2021 novel and everything Netflix has shown of The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth. What's funny is the word Netflix added to the title. In the novel, the chapter where Cliff kills his wife Billie is called Misadventure. It's also how her death got officially labeled. Netflix hasn't explained the rename, so the link is our reading. Nobody confirmed it. Heads-up, though. Spoilers for the 2019 film and for the novel, including what happened on the boat. My guess is that the sequel is about a stuntman whose whole life runs on a story he got away with. In other words, by 1977 he's a fixer, and a TV star who does his own stunts hires him for the rumor. If you think about it, that's the same rumor that kept him off sets in the sixties. For instance, there's the slashed tire at Spahn Ranch, the real stuntmen people trace Cliff to, and Rick's "too fat" line. You can see the pattern by the end. There are also three theories about the plot, each with how much I believe it. The movie plays only in IMAX for two weeks starting November 25th. It hits Netflix on December 23rd, and Tarantino's own book, The Adventures of Cliff Booth, comes out on December 8th. I mean, the book keeps the old title, from before the Mis- got added. We'll break the movie down once it's out, so subscribe if you want to catch that one. Or does Cliff get to keep his story? I don't know yet. Tell me where you land in the comments.
