After our visit to Laguna de los 7 colores, we moved on to the final attraction, Bosque de Piedras Canchacucho in Huayllay. It's also known as Stone Forest. Why? Because it has many huge rocks and stones. They were formed over 70 million years ago, with shapes that resemble humans and animals. Bosque de Piedras Canchacucho reminds me a lot of La Paz, Bolivia. It's beautiful and feels magical.
Did you know? Bosque de Piedras Canchacucho is the world's largest and highest geological forest, and it's one of Peru's seven wonders. It covers an area of 6, 815 hectares. The site offers several circuits (routes) to visit. The most visited are circuits 1, 2, and 3, where you can find different stone figures, cave paintings, lagoons, and more. Bosque de Piedras Canchacucho sits at an altitude ranging from 4,200 to 4,600 meters above sea level.
Before exploring Bosque de Piedras Canchacucho, we stopped by a local restaurant for lunch. Our lunch cost 20 soles per person. We had lamb soup and truchas. The trucha was delicious. Opposite the restaurant is another local attraction called Sagrado Corazón de Jesús. We saw some alpacas, sheep, and llamas there. They were so adorable, especially when they started running on the road. The weather was lovely until it started to rain. Later, it started to hail, too.
We continued our journey, regardless. The ticket entry was 3 soles per person. We were accompanied by 3 adorable dogs who were more than willing to join us in the rain. If it hadn't rained, we would've spent more time at Bosque de Piedras Canchacucho. We left at 6 pm. Despite the rain, we had a good day. The road back to Cullhuay was nice. I really enjoyed the sunset. The landscape was amazing.
