Ordesa y Monte Perdido National Park on the GR11, day 22 of my hike across the Spanish Pyrenees: waterfalls everywhere after the storm, and racing the next bad weather to a small shelter. Slow letters from the trail and the road, in your inbox: https://livewild.kit.com When I walked here two days ago, the river streams were blue and calm. After the big thunderstorm they were wild, with waterfalls all around, and I had no idea it was going to be this beautiful. Camping in Ordesa is very regulated, so if you're a little bit slower, like me, smelling all the flowers along the way, you have to plan this part carefully. There are only a few places where you are allowed to sleep, and Góriz is a busy shelter you need to book way in advance. On the way I met Maria from the Netherlands, who slept at the refugio with more than 20 tents outside, and when she woke up more than half of them were destroyed by hail, thunder and rain. The weather is not a joke in the mountains, so I kept going. That's Monte Perdido, the third highest peak of the Pyrenees, and perdido means lost. And guess what? I ended up on the wrong trail to Monte Perdido. Off track here means going downhill or uphill the wrong way, and that's how accidents happen, so I walked back to the trail marker and checked AllTrails. I still had about 550 kilometres to go, so let's stay safe. I wrote about this stage in my GR11 diary too: https://www.theoceanpreneur.com/desti...
