Can intelligence protect you from a romance scam? Dr. Jonathan Farley—a Harvard-educated mathematician who earned his doctorate from Oxford—says he lost nearly $50,000 after a three-year international relationship and marriage to a young Russian woman he met through an online catalog-bride website. Jonathan approached finding love analytically. He considered the ratio of women to men in Russia, traveled to Siberia to meet her, met her family, and asked approximately 250 questions about marriage, children and their future together. He believed he had carefully examined the relationship before getting married. According to Jonathan, everything changed within two weeks of the wedding.
