28 Hours on Africa’s Most Famous Train: The TAZARA 🚂 || S3 Episode 108

This is a bittersweet moment. I have ended my bicycle journey here in Lusaka, Zambia. After months on the road, countless kilometers, and unforgettable memories, I packed up my bicycle and belongings and began the journey home. But the adventure wasn't over yet—I had one more incredible experience waiting for me. --- 🚂 The TAZARA Train: A Piece of History First, I took a bus to Kapiri Mposhi in Zambia and bought a ticket to Tunduma (the border town on the Tanzanian side). The fare was 350 Kwacha for second class. The train is called the TAZARA Railway (Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority). This railway has a fascinating history. It was built by the Chinese government in the 1970s as a gift of friendship to Zambia and Tanzania. The goal was to give landlocked Zambia an alternative route to the sea (the port of Dar es Salaam) without relying on apartheid-era South Africa or Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) . Construction began in 1970 and was completed in 1975, covering an impressive 1,860 kilometers . Over 50,000 Chinese and 100,000 African workers built this line through some of Africa's toughest terrain . --- 🌿 The Journey The journey was absolutely wonderful. The train was very clean, and the views were stunning—endless green landscapes, villages, and wildlife passing by my window. I traveled for 28 hours to reach Tunduma, but I enjoyed every single moment. It was a peaceful, scenic way to cross the continent. --- 🚌 Completing the Journey At Tunduma, I crossed the border back into Tanzania. From there, I took a bus to Dodoma, the capital of Tanzania, continuing my journey toward home. This train ride was the perfect way to end an epic chapter of my life.
