A tree does not grow stronger by cutting off its own roots. In this conversation, I explore the inherited hatred and contempt that many people have been taught to feel toward Sanātana Dharma, Hindu traditions, and parts of their own spiritual and cultural inheritance. This is not about telling anyone what they should believe. It is about developing the freedom to question what we have inherited, examine history honestly, and approach traditions with curiosity rather than prejudice. We can respect our elders without repeating every fear, bias, or pattern they passed down to us. I also share what I learned from my Hindu grandmother, whose generosity and respect for people of other faiths left a lasting impression on me. Her example reminds us that genuine spirituality does not require hatred, contempt, or the rejection of other people’s humanity. My forthcoming book, “Sanātana Dharma: From Rejection to Reconnection,” explores these ideas more deeply and examines what it means to dissolve inherited hatred and contempt for our roots.
