The entire history of Egypt in 14 minutes. This ancient Egypt documentary traces Egyptian history from the pharaohs and the pyramids to Cleopatra, Tutankhamun, the Suez Canal and the Nile crisis of 2026.
More than 3,000 years ago, the men who carved the tombs of the pharaohs stopped working and said three words: we are hungry. It was the first strike in recorded history. In Egyptian Arabic, the word for bread also means life, and in Egypt, whoever hands out the bread rules the country.
This documentary follows the full story: the 13,000-year-old graveyard of Jebel Sahaba, Egypt's earliest writing, Queen Merneith, the first complete ancient Egyptian genome, hidden voids inside the pyramids of Giza, a 4,500-year-old skull cut around a cancer, the calendar Julius Caesar reformed, the baboons of Punt, Tutankhamun's meteorite dagger, the murder of Ramesses III, the Lighthouse of Alexandria, Roman Egypt, the Nilometer, the famine of 1200, Mansa Musa's gold, the Black Death, the cotton boom and bankruptcy, Nasser and the Aswan High Dam, Abu Simbel, the 1977 bread riots, the 2011 revolution, and Egypt today.
Persia, Alexander, Rome, the caliphs, the Ottomans and the British Empire all ruled Egypt, and all of them are gone. Egypt is still here. So why does the land that once fed Rome now buy more wheat than any other country on Earth?
Built on peer-reviewed research, archaeological discoveries and primary historical sources.
