Using about 2,500 photographs taken from the International Space Station by Chris Williams last July 21, we created this #timelapse. This is a flyover of the #ISS from Chad to Mongolia. As often happens on these passes, the sparse cloud cover over the Sahara gives us a clear view of its reddish sands, but this time the sky remains clear over the Middle East as well. For example, you can clearly make out the Suez Canal, the borders of the Gaza Strip, Mesopotamia, and a splendid view of the Caspian Sea. Heading deeper into Kazakhstan, the ground becomes increasingly obscured by clouds, but curiously, the smoke from the chimneys of Ekibastuz GRES-1, a coal-fired power plant that provides 13% of the country's electricity, can still be made out. The video covers a 21 minutes time span and is therefore sped up about 6 times compared to the actual speed of the Station. ---------------- The AstronautiCAST YouTube channel is run by passionate volunteers on an unpaid basis.
