Ragged Point, California is one of the best scenic stops on Highway 1 at the southern gateway to Big Sur, about 15 miles north of San Simeon. It’s famous for dramatic cliffs rising roughly 350 feet above the Pacific Ocean and sweeping coastal views. 📍 What you can do there Scenic overlook: Excellent place for photos of the rugged coastline and Pacific Ocean. Portal to Big Sur: A recognizable photo spot near the overlook. Ragged Point Cliffside Trail: A short but very steep trail descending toward the beach and seasonal Black Swift Falls. Black swift falls Food & coffee: Ragged Point Inn And Resort has a restaurant, coffee shop and other traveler amenities. Gas: Mini Mart and Gas is a useful fuel stop before continuing farther north into Big Sur. Sunset: One of the particularly nice times to visit because of the unobstructed ocean-facing cliffs.
