MORO ROCK SEQUOIA NATIONAL PARK

Moro Rock is one of the most iconic viewpoints in Sequoia National Park, located in the Giant Forest area along Moro Rock/Crescent Meadow Road. 🥾 The hike Distance: about 0.25 mile one way Elevation gain: about 300 feet Stairs: roughly 350 steps Summit elevation: 6,275 feet Time: approximately 30–120 minutes, depending on pace and stops Difficulty: Short but strenuous because of the steep staircase and elevation. The trail climbs a granite dome using a narrow staircase built directly into the rock. Railings provide protection, but there are significant drop-offs, so stay on the designated staircase and keep children close. 🏔️ What’s at the top? The reward is a spectacular 360-degree panorama. From the summit you can see the Great Western Divide, the Sierra Nevada wilderness, the foothills, and toward the San Joaquin Valley on clear days. Moro Rock itself is a granite dome formed millions of years ago. Magma cooled underground into granite, and erosion gradually removed the softer rock surrounding it, leaving the massive dome exposed. 🌅 Sunrise is special Moro Rock is an excellent sunrise or sunset location. The National Park Service specifically recommends dawn and before-dusk visits because of the expansive views and night sky.
