Cardiology PA vs urgent care PA: same license, but completely different pace, pay, patients, schedule, and lifestyle. In this video, I compare two very different physician assistant career paths: cardiology PA vs urgent care PA. Even though both jobs use the same PA license, the day-to-day work can feel completely different. I break down the biggest differences between my experience working in cardiology and urgent care, including: • Pace and patient volume • Complexity of medicine • Pre-charting and documentation • Patient relationships • Schedule, lifestyle, and work environment • Pay and compensation structure • Patient population and scope of practice In urgent care, the pace is fast, the patient population is broad, and you may see everything from young children to older adults. In cardiology, the patient population is generally older, the medicine is more specialized, and the level of complexity and longitudinal care is much greater. I also discuss differences in charting, workspaces, RVU-based compensation, staying late after clinic, and what each role actually feels like on a day-to-day basis. If you’re a pre-PA student, PA student, or someone considering a career as a physician assistant, this video can help you understand just how much variety exists within the PA profession. Same profession. Same PA license. Very different careers.
