This is a video for turning a shoehorn handle. It’s a great turning project for beginners. I turned it on my Nova Comet II lathe. Anyone can easily turn a handle for a shoehorn. The turning is a great way to practice turning skills and end up with a very useful product. The handle can be fancy or simple. The turnings on the handle do not affect the function of the tool. In this video I show the techniques and tools I used to turn this handle. I dis not narriate this version so there is only music in the background. There is a second version that is a detailed how to where I narrate what I'm doing. I also add extra details and give examples on how this method of attaching casters will work on other styles of workbenches. I show details of turning and share my thoughts on how to batch out a project like this. If you're planning on turning a lot of a particular object this video may help. The way I turned these handles resulted in 12 unique handles. I didn't try to repeat the same design a dozen times. Turning Tool Set The set of turning tools that I bought is no longer available on Amazon. I wouldn’t recommend it anyway. What I do recommend is that you purchase the best turning tools that you can afford. DO NOT buy a cheap set of tools. Keep in mind that it will take a while for you to learn to sharpen them. It might be a better idea to get some less expensive tools at first to practice with. Robert Sorby 3/8” Spindle Gouge I bought mine at Rockler but they are available elsewhere.
