Together, we walked slowly into the quiet mountains north of Kyoto — to a hidden shrine where one of Japan's most familiar prayer traditions, the wooden ema plaque, was first born. 🌿

⛩️ Kifune Shrine — birthplace of the ema (絵馬), Japan's iconic wooden prayer plaques
🔮 Mizu-ura Mikuji — paper fortunes that stay blank until floated on sacred water
🪜 The vermilion lantern stairs — one of Kyoto's most photographed scenes
🍃 Kawadoko café — matcha and sweets served right above the flowing river (summer only)
🍜 Gokukei — Ichijoji's famously rich tori-paitan ramen, one of Kyoto's most loved bowls

Mr: I never knew ema were born here.
Mrs: Me neither. A thousand years of wishes — all began in this quiet place.
Mr: Makes you want to pause, and think about your own.
