Steel Ball Run’s Opening “SPIN” Analysis/Breakdown

HOLY this opening is so good. Steel Ball Run finally has its first opening, “SPIN” by Kroi, and there is so much packed into it that I had to go through the entire thing frame by frame. This is my full Steel Ball Run opening analysis, where I break down the SBR opening from beginning to end and go through all the manga references, hidden details, callbacks to older JoJo openings, foreshadowing and visual references I noticed. Kroi absolutely killed it with SPIN, and the visuals somehow made me even more hyped for Steel Ball Run. There are references to STAND PROUD, BLOODY STREAM and Stone Ocean, manga panels and volume covers, the Golden Ratio, Devil’s Palm, Tusk ACT1, Scary Monsters, Ringo Roadagain, Blackmore, Wekapipo, Diego Brando, Funny Valentine and much more. My first reaction to the Steel Ball Run OP was basically just HOLY. The second half especially is insane, and the Diego / Devil’s Palm sequence might be my favorite part of the whole opening. There are manga spoilers in this video since SPIN itself shows and references characters and arcs that the anime hasn’t reached yet.
