Harakka is a small island just off Kaivopuisto in Helsinki, between Uunisaari and Särkkä. It is known for its rich birdlife, nature trails, and the Harakka Nature Centre. The island is only about a 5‑minute ferry ride from the Ullanlinna pier near Café Ursula.
Some highlights:
A nature trail of about 1 km circles the island.
There are four protected nature reserves on the island.
The island was formerly used by the Finnish Defence Forces and opened to the public in 1989.
The Nature Centre offers exhibitions and information about the Baltic Sea and Helsinki's archipelago nature.
Dogs and private boats are not allowed on the island.
Uunisaari is a small recreational island just off the coast of Kaivopuisto in southern Helsinki. It is one of the easiest Helsinki islands to visit because it is only a few minutes from the mainland.
Key facts about Uunisaari:
Located south of Kaivopuisto, near Merisatama.
Consists of two islands connected by a wooden bridge.
In winter, a pedestrian pontoon bridge connects the island to the mainland.
In summer, visitors reach it by a short ferry ride from Merisatama.
Popular for picnics, walking, swimming, sea views, and enjoying Helsinki's archipelago atmosphere.
The island also has a restaurant, café, and seaside sauna.
For someone like you who enjoys filming Helsinki, Uunisaari is one of the best spots for:
Sunset views toward the Gulf of Finland
Storm waves in autumn
Winter sea ice scenes
Views of Harmaja Lighthouse and passing boats
Skyline shots back toward central Helsinki
It's only a short walk from the city center, yet it feels surprisingly like being out in the Finnish archipelago.
Liuskasaari is a small island off Kaivopuisto in southern Helsinki, located between Uunisaari and Sirpalesaari.
What makes Liuskasaari special?
It is home to Helsingfors Segelsällskap (HSS), one of Finland's oldest sailing clubs.
The island has a marina and guest harbor for visiting boats.
You'll find HSS Paviljonki, a well-known seaside restaurant with views toward the open sea and Harmaja Lighthouse.
The nearby islet Liuskaluoto hosts the popular Skiffer restaurant and marine services.
Liuskasaari and Uunisaari are connected by a breakwater/walking route.
Sirpalesaari is a small island just off Kaivopuisto and Merisatama in Helsinki, immediately west of Liuskasaari. It is known for its sailing harbor, restaurant, and maritime atmosphere.
Key facts:
Sirpalesaari is part of the cluster of islands off Kaivopuisto that includes Uunisaari and Liuskasaari.
The island is home to the yacht club Suomalainen Pursiseura (SPS) and its guest marina.
It hosts the well-known summer restaurant Ravintola Saari, one of Helsinki's classic waterfront dining destinations.
During the summer season, a small ferry operates from Merisatamanranta/Ursininlaituri, and the crossing takes only a couple of minutes.
The island remains open to visitors, not just yacht club members.
A bit of history:
In the early 1900s, the island had industrial activity, including a machine factory and shipyard. Later it became the home of Suomalainen Pursiseura, whose clubhouse opened in 1963.
For your drone and cityscape interests, Sirpalesaari offers:
Excellent views toward Kaivopuisto, Eira, and central Helsinki.
Sailboat marinas and yacht activity.
Photogenic sunsets over the Gulf of Finland.
A great perspective on the chain of islands including Uunisaari, Liuskasaari, Harakka, and Särkkä. This last point is my observation based on the location, not a fact from the sources.
Historically, waters around Liuskasaari were used for sailing events during the 1952 Helsinki Olympics.
